Join the Creating Newsletter
Creativity doesn’t always follow a plan—it sparks, unfolds, and surprises. The Creating newsletter is a space for teacher-authors, bloggers, creative educators, and small business owners who love to doodle, sketch, jot, and brainstorm. Each week, I send out a free newsletter filled with creative nudges—sometimes a doodle challenge, a brainstorming spark, or a fresh perspective on shaping ideas. Plans don’t always start with a list; sometimes, they begin with a single mark on a page. If you love the process of creating first, reflecting later, this is for you. Creative Planner Challenge – Flight and Flowers
Need a soft, calming drawing moment this week?
Try this gentle Creative Planner warm-up inspired by tiny things you notice in your day — a simple way to settle your mind and return to creative flow.
You can use the 5x4 (20 grid) page from your Creative Planner or any small-grid page you prefer.
Step 1: Notice something small
Take a moment during your day — on a walk, at your desk, or even making your morning drink — and look for one tiny thing that stands out.
A shape, colour, movement, shadow, flower, or bird.
👉 Example: A bird shape in the froth of your warm elixir.
Step 2: Choose a second moment
Find one more gentle detail in your surroundings — something that sparks a small sense of joy or beauty.
👉 Example: A flower you spotted on your walk, or the bright flash of a rainbow lorikeet.
Step 3: Turn them into simple shapes
Translate each moment into a very simple repeated shape or line.
Maybe a soft wing curve… a petal shape… a tiny dot or swirl.
Just the essence — nothing detailed.
👉 Example: A curved “wing” line + a little flower petal shape.
Step 4: Fill your Grid
Use these shapes to fill your 20-grid (or 12-grid) page.
Let your pen float and repeat patterns.
Add frills, loops, petals, feathers — anything that feels gentle and light.
Each box can be different, yet still inspired by the same tiny moments.
This is your creative pause —
simple, mindful drawing to bring you back into flow.
Just 10–15 minutes to reset your mind and steady your thoughts.
